FAQ: BMW Frankfurt Marathon

Every participant who reaches the finish with 6h15min receives a finisher-medal, and a certificate and results-CD via post (end of December). This applies for the participants of the relay marathon. The certificates of the mini marathon will be sent in mid-January.

We wish all young mothers and fathers lots of fun while running with their children in the baby carriage. But please take care of other runners they can easily trip over you.

You can bring your clothes in the official bag to the baggage disposal from 8:30am on October 27th in hall 1, level 1. Please stick the number on your bag and allow enough time to check-in your bag. Please note that we only accept clothing bags of the BMW Frankfurt Marathon 2013 for other luggage we offer a wardrobe with costs (4 € per piece of luggage). There is no other possibility than hall 1 level 1 to hand in your bag with clothes.

The race is only scored by using the ChampionChip system.

Please attach the chip to the laces of your running shoe. We can only assess your time when you cross the mats lying at the start, along the course and at the finish. Persons who do not have these times will be disqualified. Additionally a video surveillance system is installed along the course. Please wear your race number during the whole race well viewable on your chest.
In any case first of all you have to pick up your race number in hall 1 level 2 simultaneously you will receive your rented Chip or get your own Chip checked.
CHIP-RENT: You have paid 6 € rental additional to the starting fee and therefore registered for a rental Chip. When picking up your start number you you will also receive your rental Chip. Please render the Chip undamaged on October 27th 2013 between 1:30pm and 5:30pm after the race (Mainova Mini-Marathon Chip return: 11:30am – 3:30pm) at the Chip return which is located in the race number pick up area in hall 1 level 2. If you decide to keep the Chip, it is said to be bought and 25 € will be debited on your credit card after the race.
CHIP-PURCHASE: You have paid 31 € additional to the starting fee and thereupon bought a Chip which has already been sent to you. Please bring the Chip along at the event day and attach it to the laces of your running shoe as stated above. When picking up our start number please get a final check of your Chip data. The Chip can not be returned after the event.
CHIP-OWNER: If you own a Chip, please bring it along at the event day. When picking up your race number please get a final check of your Chip data. If you didn’t name your Chip number when registering, please notify the Chip number (letter-figure combination) to us before the race per e-mail at [email protected].
FORGOTTEN your Chip: If you forgot to bring your Chip along you will receive a white Chip for a rent of 6,00 €. Please render the Chip undamaged on October 27th 2012 after the race between 1:30pm and 5:30pm at the Chip return which is located in the race number pick up area in hall 1 level 2. You are not allowed to keep this white Chip, because it is not up for sale and can’t be used at other running events.

A transfer of your registration to another runner can be made online until October 6th 2013. Therefore please log in to your user account at https://portal.mikatiming.de/bmw-frankfurt-marathon/2013/ or create an user account and click the “registration transfer” option. Following you receive a coupon code via email, which you can pass on to the substitute participant. With this coupon code it is possible to register online for the BMW Frankfurt Marathon for just 10 Euro service charge. Please note that gimmicks which where booked by the originally registered runner for example ChampionChip, medal engraving, SMS service or Shirt will neither be taken over for the new runner nor be refunded.

For the relay team the change of runners is for free. Therefore please send an e-mail to [email protected].

Firstly, please pick up your baggage in hall 1, level 1 (you can take the escalator) until 5:30pm. You need to show your race number to get it. Besides you can also use the massage service in hall 1, level 1 after showering. You will find the changing rooms and showers in hall 1, basement. You can also use the showers at the swimming-pool ‘Rebstockbad’ till 8pm. Just show your race number.

A church service takes place in the festival hall (Festhalle, Blauer Saal) on Saturday, 26th of October 2013 at 6pm. All runners and interested persons are welcomed to join the church service.

It is not allowed to accompany any participant of the race with a bike or any other mean of transport. This would lead to a disqualification of the participant.

There will be overall around 100 parties along the course; bands playing music, cultural and sport organisations organise these parties.

The route can be run easily and quickly and has resulted in last year in new track records. In 2011 the new record was set by the Kenyan Wilson Kipsang (2:03:42). With this time, which is the second best ever run in a marathon, the BMW Frankfurt Marathon has positioned itself in the top class of the world. Meseret Melkamu runs to a new course record in 2012 with a time of 2:21:59. Where such outstanding records are being made, you can also run your personal best!
The route has a total elevation gain of only 27.8 meters, spread over the entire route length of 42 195 meters. The route is set up circular and runs along both sides of the river Main through many parts of Frankfurt.

You will be disqualified if you
- behave unsportsmanlike or disrespect the official regulations
- use any means that is not allowed, e. g. you are accompanied by bike
- fold, shorten or put something over your race number
- disregard the marked route
- do not run over the control mats along the course
- for relay-teams only: if you start in the wrong start corral

If you have to drop out for any reason, you have to make your way to the finish area. You can either take the bus at the end of the field (behind the last runners) or public transport as the race number represents your ticket. You can retrieve your kitbag at the finish area. Participants who are slower than the official target times at each 5K, will be withdrawn from the race. Moreover there are buses that bring you back to the Trade Fair at:

An information desk is to be found before entering the Marathonmall in hall 1.2.

There are lavatories in the festival hall and hall 1. Besides there are toilets at the start and finish area and along the course. But note, that you may have to wait. The toilets along the course are located at 5K and 10K, afterwards, every 2.5K, right after the water station.

The special evaluation Marathon Manager is open for executives, who are in charge entrepreneurially, bear entrepreneurial risk and are employed in an outstanding position or are self-employed. The organiser asks interested parties to check their job-related profile accurately to that effect. The organiser reserves the right to request supporting documents in case of doubt. We ask managers with target times below 2:45 (m) respectively 3:30 (f) hours for directly sending us a corresponding proof. Email: [email protected]. The documents will of course be kept confidentially. The organiser reserves the right to request and free decision. The course of law is impossible. The individual results of the “Marathon Managers” are recorded separately for women and men. The winners are able to look forward to high-class marathon tours.

You can get a massage in hall 1.1 at the expo, close to the start and finish area. This service is for free for all athletes.

Medical service is available on race day at 10am in the Festhalle (festival hall). Moreover medical service is guaranteed along the course and at the finish area. We recommend to call for a doctor as soon as you feel any kind of physical interference.

It is possible to hand in your own nutrition for the race on October 27th 2013 until 8:30am in hall 1, basement (only signed bottles: kilometre and race number – no glass). Due to organisational constraints, it is only possible to offer this service to competitive runners (men: faster than 2h45, women: faster than 3h00) and participants who need special nutrition due to medical reasons.

We offer experienced pace makers wit hestimated finish times of 2:59:00, 3:14:00, 3:29:00, 3:44:00, 3:59:00, 4:14:00, 4:29:00, 4:59:00, 5:29:00 and 5:59:00. Two pace makers for every time. You will recognise the pace maker in the start corrals as they will be holding a big ballon with the finish time.

Enjoy an easy 5K run through the city centre of Frankfurt to the trade fair. You will be welcomed at the finish with original Frankfurt pretzel, apple juice and much more. We would be happy if you would bring along to the race your club’s-, city’s or country’s flag.

Changes of programme and services possible (status quo June 2013)

Your race number allows you on 27th of October 2013 to use all public transport (subway, tram and bus) in Frankfurt for free (city area 50). Other persons accompanying you can purchase a special ticket at the information bus in front of the festival hall (Festhalle).

The forbiddance of the race number belt only is the announcement of the corresponding IAAF arrangement or rather the DLV arrangement (s. IWB-rule 18.17 et seq.). There the size, possible brandings and the body part, which the race number must be worn on (on the chest, the bottom must be above the trouser waistband), are explicitly named. According to the fact that runners don’t study those international rules before taking part in a race, we consider it to be reasonable to point out these regulations in our information for runners and relay teams.
There is no rule which bans the race number belt in itself, but the race number belt is not worn right under the axles but at waist level. Therefore the race number is no longer positioned on the chest but after 42km mostly on the nether regions.

These regulations have been enacted in order to give sponsors a precisely selected presentation platform. The two sponsors, who are presented on the race numbers with their logos, finance approximately 30% of the overall costs the Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon causes. The race number for years is the strongest of all advertising media. According to that it must be the general interest of all participants to help these sponsors having a great appearance on our event in order that they keep supporting running events and not only TV-sports.

So we would like to ask you like in the good old days to wear the race number on your chest.

27th of October 2013, 8am-2pm. News flashes about the BMW Frankfurt Marathon in many radio stations of Hessen and especially at hr1, our radio partner. Please refer to the programme of your newspaper for exact times.

The registration deadline is 6th of October 2013. Afterwards, you can only register at the online late registration or at the registration venue on 25th and 26th of October 2013 (if there are still race numbers avaible). It is not possible to register on race day!

The results will be published on 27th of October 2013 around 2:30pm in hall 1.2 and will be kept up to date. Besides you will find the preliminary results online at bmw-frankfurt-marathon.com, at the race day, 27th of October 2013, in the afternoon. It is possible to raise objection against the results until latest 4th of November 2013. All participants will receive an official certificate and CD with all results until the end of December per post.

The starting line up will be at the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage towards city centre. The field will be organized into three separate waves: 1st wave: 10:30am, 2nd wave 10:37am, 3rd wave: 10:45am

Only runners wearing official start numbers are allowed to enter the starting line up. There are different corrals for all runners. Please go to your assigned start corral before 10:20am. Your start corral is printed on the race number and you are only allowed to enter the corral that you are assigned to. Your wave is the result of your corral. Big balloons indicating the different start corrals (with logos for each corral; e.g. ASICS, BMW, Stadt Frankfurt, …) will show you the way to your start corral.

All participants have the chance to use the swimming-pool (Sunday, 9am to 8pm) ‘Rebstockbad’ for free. Please take your race number or confirmation of participation with you. There is a public transport, commencing at Hemmerichsweg.

The race will be transmitted live on hessen fernsehen, 27th of October 2013. Besides there will probably reports about the race on other programmes.

The stations at 5km and 10km are lined up on both sides; all other stations are one-sided only!
Every 5km the order at each water station is as follows: Clock, medical aid, own nutrition, Rosbacher mineral water Naturell, Rosbacher Sport, tea, troughs with water to dunk in your sponge, litter bins. Starting at 15km there are moreover organic bananas. At 20km, 25km, 30km and 35km High5 EnergyGels are offered. Refreshments (Rosbacher mineral water Naturell and troughs with water) can also be found at 12.5km, 17.5km, 22.5km, 27.5km, 32,5 and 37.5km. At km 30, 35 and 40 thre is bizzl Cola.

The average temperature in the end of Octobre is approx. 10°-14° degrees Celsius. All competitions will be started regardless of the weather. It is not possible to refund the organisation fee due to unconvenient weather.

For marathon runners It is only possible to withdraw from the start due to health reasons. Please notify us before November 10th 2013 and post a medical certificate to our office certifying your illness. You will receive a free start (only an organisation charge of €10,- will apply) for the BMW Frankfurt Marathon on October 26th 2014. A corresponding coupon code will be sent to you in February 2014. The coupon code can not be transferred to other persons, competitions or events. A reimbursement of the organisation is not possible. Booked gimmicks are only valid for the marathon in 2013.
It is not possible for relay teams to withdraw from the start.
